Στους πρόποδες της μυκηναϊκής ακρόπολης του Θορικού, ο οποίος δεσπόζει στον φυσικό λιμένα του Λαυρίου, μία ομάδα Γάλλων αρχαιολόγων και μεταλλειολόγων υπό την επίβλεψη του καθηγητή Denis Morin από το Πανεπιστήμιο της Λορραίνης (EA 1132), σε συνεργασία  με το UMR CNRS 5608 (UMR National Center for Scientific Research 5608) της Τουλούζης, μόλις ανακάλυψε ένα περίπλοκο δίκτυο από στοές, φρέατα και δωμάτια. Μυστηριώδεις επιδρομείς στην Ευρώπη στο τέλος της εποχής των πάγων δείχνει νέα έρευνα αρχαίου DNA

Ένα τελείως άγνωστο έως τώρα κεφάλαιο της ευρωπαϊκής προϊστορίας αρχίζει να έρχεται στο φως. Η Ευρώπη υπέστη μια μεγάλη πληθυσμιακή αναστάτωση πριν από περίπου 14.500 χρόνια, καθώς σταδιακά έβγαινε από την τελευταία εποχή των πάγων, όταν μυστηριώδεις επιδρομείς την κατέκτησαν. Σε αυτό το συμπέρασμα κατέληξε για πρώτη φορά μια νέα διεθνής γενετική ανάλυση –με ελληνική συμμετοχή– προϊστορικού DNA από οστά και δόντια κυνηγών-τροφοσυλλεκτών.
